| Home Blog About Other | Hi, my name is Mark S., and I am a construction worker right now, volunteering at a project in California. The goal of this project is to turn an old warehouse into a convention center to host Christian conferences. This project encompasses the seventh and eighth buildings on a corporate property, but most of the work is in Building 8, since that's the one that will become the convention center. Since coming to this project, I have learned how to do many things that I would have never had the opportunity to learn otherwise. Here is a list of things I have done in the field of construction. I may forget a bunch of things, so this list will grow with time as I remember them. · Flame cutting · Plasma cutting · Stick welding · Flux-core welding (non-gas assisted) · MIG welding (gas assisted) · Steel fitting/rigging · Steel framing · Tying rebar · Sweating copper · Steel pipe threading · Snapping/fitting cast iron pipe And here are a few tools I have become familiar with: · Jackhammer · Reciprocating Saw · Band saw · Table saw · Circular saw · Drill press · Magnetic drill press · Pipe threader · Angle grinder Things that would make a nice gift to me · Acculine Pro 40-6680 · Bleach DVD (volumes 2 and up) · Chrono Trigger (DS) · Ducati R/C Motorcycle with Leaning Rider · Hilti UH 700 · Hilti DAG 500 · Hilti WSC 7.25-S · Hilti WSR 1400 · House of Cards by William Cohen · House of the Dead: Overkill (Wii) · Investing money (any amount) · iPod Nano (orange) · Mac OSX Leopard · Metroid Prime Trilogy (Wii) · Musicman Bongo 5 (black with shell pickguard) · N+ (DS) · New battery for 15" MacBook Pro · Postal DVD · Sennheiser CX300B Connector Canal Headphones · Skagen 233XLTMB · Spending money (any amount) · The Protector DVD · Trigun Maximum Volumes 11 and up · VMWare Fusion for Mac About this list: Because I am spending the next several months in a volunteer project (which I write about often), I have no income of my own. For this reason, I put together this list sort of as a set of goals, but also so that anyone who has the kindness of heart to help me out in life can know exactly what I need. Or want. I guess not everything on the list is actually a necesity. In any case, these are the items I approve of. This way, when my birthday rolls around in November (make a note, everyone) no one will get me something lame like a set of golf balls. I don't golf, folks. Now I've never recieved a set of golf balls as a gift, but I thought I should go ahead and preemtively shut that one down. Also, you might look at this as a list of things I approve of in general. That's right: all these items, for being listed here, automatically recieve the SockNinja Stamp of Approval. If you are looking for a good laser level, for example, here you have one already picked out that clearly stands above the rest. Each item here has been hand picked for maximum value in every possible category. Each selection represents hours of intense research for the best possible product in that category. Of course, in the case of the iPod Nano, hours of research means I watched the commercials too many times. |
